A New Vow
A New Vow
Upon a fire burning bright
A vow was made to end
the night.
A hurting woman sat upon
the pier
Wondering who---or what---could
hear.
She vowed upon a blood-red
moon
All thoughts of love
would now end soon.
Upon a grave her name
would be
For every man she loved
to see.
Through tear-blind eyes
she gazed around
Knowing there would be
no one to help her down.
The tears that seemed
to burn her eyes
Flowed under the unforgiving
skies.
The tears of pain did
her no good
Now to end her life while
she could.
The shot rang out across
the sand
There was no one there
to hold her hand.
A single tear ran down
her lifeless face
To fall and vanish without
a trace.
The men she loved were
now all free
But in their hearts she
will always be.
